Pastor/ Author Danyelle is the Senior Pastor of New Vessels Ministries North in Shreveport, Louisiana. She studied Theology at Louisiana Baptist University, has a Psychology Degree from the University of Phoenix, an Interdisciplinary Degree in Psychology /Biblical Studies from Liberty University, and is presently working on a Master’s in Religious Education from the Liberty University. Pastor Danyelle owns Divinely Sown Publishing LLC and is the author of “His Mistress or God’s Daughter?, Not Too Far Gone, Destiny’s Decision, Evonta’s Revenge, & The Power Series: Pain, Restoration, Love, & Forgiving”. She is the wife of Pastor Reynard Scroggins and the mother of three.

1. What makes you feel inspired to write?

After God has allowed processing to take place, I am always inspired to write. What others call problems, I have grown to understand these occurrences or situations are processes to push or pull you into purpose. Anytime God pulls me through a particular situation, it births the opportunity to write.

2. When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I was in elementary school reading every Amelia Bedelia book in the library when I decided I wanted to become a writer. I considered myself a true writer when I published my first non-fiction book entitled Not Until You’re Ready.

I was in elementary school reading every Amelia Bedelia book in the library when I decided I wanted to become a writer. I considered myself a true writer when I published my first non-fiction book entitled Not Until You’re Ready.

3. How did you come with the idea for your current story?

Put It In Ink started over twenty years ago. I began to write the frame but had to put it to the side until I was ready. Meaning? I had to discover the power in writing down the things God showed or revealed; putting in ink the visions and dreams God gave concerning the future. It is not only eye-opening but necessary and therapeutic to write the things that are in your heart.

40 Days of Healing birthed after God ushered my church and me into 40 days of fasting. It was so amazing to discover how God will grant daily manna to encourage, rebuke, reprove, restore, and redirect you in your life.

4. Tell us about your writing process. Do you outline, or are you more of a seat of your pants type of a writer?

I usually begin my writing process by jotting down particular thoughts or should I say, “I plan the writing road.” I often plant the characters, the outcome or the end, and then I begin the prayer process. I never want to write anything that would hurt, demean, or destroy someone so this is why I pray to be on one accord with God and sow into the lives of people exactly what is directly linked to God’s spirit.

40 Days of Healing was unlike any book I have ever written. It was like dialing God each morning and getting directly what He wanted me to give to His people. Some days, I was so shocked at how He took me back in my dreams to places in my past that were so relevant to what He wanted to relate. I’m still amazed.

5. What is your usual writing routine?

When I write, I generally try to write late at night when my house is still although sometimes, I carve out at least four early morning hours like between 6 and 10. You would be surprised at how your schedule changes during writing but the end result is always worth the sleepless nights or early rising.

6. What is the highest goal that you desire to meet as an author?

As an author, I understand that each time a reader reads my books and become compelled to allow Christ into their lives and situations I have my reward. It took me a while to understand that being an author is just and extension of my ministry and who I am as a pastor.

7. What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone that wants to get into writing?

My best advice to anyone who wants to write is be true to you. Do not try to write like everyone or anyone else. Find your authentic self and discover who you are as a writer. I also would like them to understand that writing is not easy, but it is just like anything else in life…available to those who fight to make it happen.

8. Name three of your best writing tips.

You must be true to you and your beliefs at all times.

You must make time to write and treat your writing as a career.

You have to love the messages you are trying to relay.

9. Dead or alive, name the writer you wish were your mentor and why.

I would definitely love to have been mentored by the Bible author Paul as he had a way with writing that not only encouraged the reader, but also prick a place that made the reader desire to be true to themselves as well as to God.

10. What would you say is your own interesting writing quirk?

I pray a lot before, during, and after writing. I just believe that in order to make sure I am in alignment with my purpose and mission as a writer, I have to be in constant communication with the source of my imagination.

11. Shout out an indie writer whose work you love.

I really love Ann Marie Bryan as I see within her writing a true love for God and a true honor of the marriage bedroom.

12. Do you have any specific writing goals in your radar?

Yes I am really trying to dabble a little in children’s books and also take my husband’s favorite story and make it into a series.

13. How do you spend your free time? Do you have a favorite place to go and unwind?

I absolutely love to travel, and whenever I have a moment of freedom, I take it to the road. There is nothing like sitting on the passenger side, reading a good book, and laughing aloud as my husband asks, “What has happened now?” Now when I am not able to take a trip, I love spending time sitting by my pond. You see so much in nature and really the presence of God when you take the time to be still.

14. What do you have in store next for your readers?

I just did my first anthology with a couple of excellent authors, and I will be making that book available as a Kindle book soon. Then I am revamping a book that I did a short story called Evonta’s Revenge, and I am doing a four book series with her family if God wills. There is so much more on my agenda as an author, and my prayer is that my readers continue to support my efforts to share Jesus Christ with them in forms of fiction and non-fiction books.

This journal was birth through my desire to participate in Lent. No, I am not Catholic, but I definitely believe that the blessings of the Lord fall on those who love Him enough to lay aside themselves for the sake of getting more of God. That is what fasting is all about.

It is about laying aside that thing or those things that obstruct you from being the best person you can be, and believing the denying of yourself, gives God room to maximize your potential at becoming the best you, or opening channels for you to receive answered prayers.

It is also about putting the “it” in your life down so you can move to your next level in God, as we coined our fast, “It Must Go Down So I Can Go Up.” Say that. Before you can even finish saying it, you already know what the “it” is that is keeping you from elevating in God.

Therefore, I first would like to tell you that I called each day’s Word, my morning manna. Then I would like to ask you to begin this journal with an open mind and heart. Pray and ask God to give you the will to complete your 40 days of fasting. I would also like to encourage you to use your morning manna daily to help someone you pass along the way.

Last, I would like to tell you to be prepared for whatever God is going to do for you because of your obedience! He is a great God, and He is willing to supersede all you can ask or think because He does the exceedingly and abundantly above all you can ask or think.

Today is the beginning of your road to healing through fasting and prayer. The beginning of your 40 days of giving up something  (my it), so you can “Go Higher”!

For the next 40 days, I want you to commit to giving up something (your it): Soda, Sweets, Lying, Facebook, Social Media, The Telephone or Cell Phone, Gambling, Alcohol, Gossiping, Sex, Wine, Television, Something but faithfully for the next 40 days!

So before you begin Day 1, write down what you are willing to give up…

I’m giving up: _______________________________________

Why I chose to give up this is. __________________________

In Conversation with

Michelle Stimpson

Q: This is a different kind of book for you. What made you venture a little with this title?

A: After writing 40+ books, an author can get kinds stagnant. I have recently started reading clean mysteries, and I found that I actually enjoy them. They keep me up late at night because I truly want to find out whodunit and why. I’m hoping my readers will enjoy a different pace, too. I think they’ll be glad to know it’s possible to change things up and still keep the message of the book strong.

Q: What is the message of the book?

A: The main character, Ashley, is struggling to make sense of things as they relate to her. She has suffered much loss in her life already. But she’s going to have to understand that God doesn’t make His plans around Her. She may be the apple of His eye, but she is not the center of the universe.  His promise to be there always will have to sufficient for some of us until we reach the other side.

Q: Wow! That title really caught me. How did you come up with the idea for this book?

A: You know what, I wish I could remember. Thankfully, I have not experience much death around me, but I know that the longer I live, the more loved ones will pass away. Death is a part of life.  I don’t kill off a lot of characters in my books, but there was just something about this couple that struck my imagination and I knew they needed a book. Quickly!

Q: How quick?

A: About 10 days from outline to finished first draft.

Q: Seriously?

A: Yes, but keep in mind: This is a shorter work of fiction.

Q: Why did you choose to write a shorter piece?

A: I actually got my start with fiction as a short-story writer. I love shorter reads because I can finish them quickly. My schedule is often irregular, so it’s hard for me to get into longer books during hectic weeks. When I sit down for a few hours with a short read, I already know I’m going to have the satisfaction of finishing it. I usually save longer reads for holidays/vacations.

Q: What else is going on with you outside of the writing world?

A: Glad you asked! I am now the grandmother of a wonderful baby girl. Bless God! I am spending a ridiculous amount of time just staring at her and nibbling on her juicy cheeks.

Q: What’s your next release?

A: I’ve got a non-fiction book coming out entitled Change Your Mind, Transform Your Life: 21 Truths to Renew Your Mind in Christ. I am always sooo excited about edifying believers. Non-fiction is not my first genre, but it is definitely one of the most fulfilling to me.

Q: Do you have advice for aspiring authors?

A: I have more than advice—I have help! They can visit www.PublishMyBookAlready.com to take classes and learn more about publishing, marketing, etc.

Q: How Can Readers Connect with You?

A: The best way to keep in touch is through my email list. I send out notice of new books and keep people posted on all kinds of things from events to what’s happening with their favorite characters to upcoming releases.

VBD Author Interview: Taiwo I. Ajao

Adunni Dares to Dream Banner

Write Now Literary is pleased to interview author Taiwo I. Ajao. We discussed Taiwo’s writing process, her latest release, and much more.

What’s your name or pen name?

For years, I’ve written under the title Lyrics by tia. Now that my writing is beginning to merge with my professional life in nursing and public health, I use TI Ajao RN

What are your genres?

My first book is a creative Biography about my Mom’s childhood. I like creative non-fiction because I get inspired by real stories, and it gives me the push to write

What have you written?

I have written a creative Biography called “Adunni Dares to Dream”. It is a true story about my mom’s difficult childhood. It inspires me deeply. My next move is a special book of true stories by my Dad, to be introduced in July 2017.

When did you begin your writing career?

I began to write as a blogger in 2010 after I had my first baby. It was my new-mother experience that inspired me.

Are you a full-time or part-time writer? How do you make time to write?

I am an all-the-time writer! I fit in writing when I am inspired. This can be as simple as scribbling down ideas as they pop in my head, or using my phone to record ideas when they fill my heart.

What’s your writing process? (Number of days you write per week, a.m. or p.m., specific music you play while writing, or anything else that you feel is a vital part of your creative process.)

Writing for me has been very sporadic. I have dreamed about it for many, many years. Writing this book was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t truly have control over it. It came over me unexpectedly. Completing this book is God’s gift to me. I feel like it wasn’t even the works of my hands.

I did have to be deliberate about putting all the pieces together. I had a working document and I made sure all my ideas ended up there. It allowed me to organize seamlessly and present a concrete product to my editors.

I use what always makes me feel comfortable and soothed: soft or nostalgic music, warm lighting and of course my feet up in a recliner!

Do you keep a journal? If so, for how long? Do you find it helpful for your professional writing?

I did! I started journalling as early as 13 years old as a confused teenager. I had so many thoughts, feelings and emotions that I couldn’t handle alone, so I began to write them out in a book as prayers, poems, songs and conversations to God. One book turned to maybe 50 over the years! When I started longing for marriage, I would write prayers for him and dream. Then when I started a long distance friendship with my now husband, we would instant message daily which brought out both of our writing potential! After our first baby, I began to blog and get into social media. To be honest, social media turned into my journal. This can be positive…or negative. Essentially, all of this full and deep writing have become like a invaluable treasure chest! Some will be shared, but even more importantly, our legacy is preserved.

Becoming a professional writer has helped me turn my inspiration into an investment: a book that all can read for themselves and to their children.

What’s your inspiration?

The Acts of God. His Faithfulness. His Love and His Grace. I am inspired by the Victories He has made in my life. I want to burst out almost everyday thinking of ALL that He has done. I throw out how I feel in social media a lot! I just have a hard time keeping it in! I feel like everyone needs to know what God has done!

I am also inspired by parents’ stories and all that I have watched happen in their lives and relationship. A lot of areas in my life mirror that of my parents. Writing my books started by a deep desire to honor them. Honoring my parents is the “WHY” of my professional writing career.

What kind of legacy do you expect your writing to leave?

I came to the understanding that I am here today because of the Legacy of all of those who came before me. My first goal is to honor my parents and their stories, which of course includes that of my grandparents, great grandparents and beyond. These stories validate my humble stories. Because of them, I am.

My 2nd goal is to build myself as a stronger supporter of my husband. He is my illustrator, producer and publisher. Putting pen to paper is 5% of the work, while his role was so much more than the other 95%. His contributions are just too tremendous! I was so surprised at how little I could do after the words were done! My parents’ interwoven  story has shown me what marriage is all about. As my husband and I continue to develop concepts together and develop our professional selves as educators and clinicians, I pray to leave a legacy of love for our kids and grow closer as a team.

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

Wait for it. Pray for it. It is the inspiration from God that will bring forth our books. Every part of each project, from the written word, to the illustration, to the masterpiece of the cover must be inspired. GOD still works miracles. Writing a book was my ultimate impossibility! I gave up on it a long time ago and figured i’ll just keep handing out my ideas frivolously on social media. When this book started to come to being, it could have only been God, and thus, all the glory is His!

What’s on your bookshelf or in your e-reader library?

I have a lovely kid’s book for 0 to 5 years old called “I am Worth The Wait” by Dr. Lindsay Marsh-Warren. I know Dr. Marsh-Warren personally. She too has a very deep testimony along with a powerful ministry called The Worth The Wait Revolution. My boys LOVE her kids’ book! It teaches them big words and validates them.

“The Supa Dupa Kid” is by TY Allan Jackson, an amazing action-author who adds true meaning to the industry. This was the first chapter book my sons & I have ever completed together. They were so excited that they would remind me of our 1 chapter commitment every night.

I’ve also fallen in love with a book called “Dylan’s Big Surprise at the Doctor” by Kishma Anthony. Kishma is another action-author who brings life to the message of her story when she interacts with children. She has also been an inspiration and I love how to promotes the health care profession!

I am enamored by a Historical Fiction novel by my friend, Author Nike C Fatoki called Thread of Gold Beads. It is the first grown-up book i’ve read in ages! Such a beautiful rendering of legacy & culture! She was the first I reach out to for advice. I am excited about the example that she leads and the way she has developed her story beyond a book by also making it a play in which my husband was a star! This Author is dear to my heart.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a special book of wisdom about the character “Mike” in “Adunni Dares to Dream”. When writing Adunni’s story, the Mike character began to impress me more and more, and I began to dream of ways to shed light on his actions & wise ways. My goal is to introduce “Mike Makes a Move: Golden Nuggets of Truth from Uncle Mike” this July 2017. I am very excited.

Latest release and book blurb

Although she was a part of a very hardworking family, Adunni just could not have the finer things in life, like school, books, & literacy. In her culture, girls were just expected to look pretty, get married and have children.  But Adunni wished for something more. Does Adunni give in to her society’s expectations? Does she chose the status quo? What are Adunni’s dreams and where do her dreams take her?

Tell us about your main character? What actress or actor would you cast to play him or her in a movie about your book?*Alt. for poets: what type of music would you set your poetry to if you were performing it?*

Well, we can see Adunni more as an animated character. Her voice however would be acted by an amazing woman who has truly put our culture on the map. Her name is Rashidat Fawehinmi-Raji of HerGist.com. Rashidat has been the creative genius behind the cultural dialect depicted in the book. She is extremely talented and funny and would be perfect as the voice of Adunni!

How  can we purchase your work?

Proceeds from the Book goes directly to Medical, Public Health & Educational Outreach to support poor children like little Adunni, starting in her home town in Nigeria, West Africa. To obtain a copy, please make a donation at www.AdunnisDream.com
