Dr. Tiffany Coleman-McGee, known to the world as Miz Tiffany, is a multi-talented force in the entertainment industry. Through a dynamic career that encompasses music, acting, modeling, and motivational speaking, Miz Tiffany has firmly established herself as an influential Christian hip-hop artist. Miz Tiffany hasn’t just broken into a male-dominated genre—she has become a trailblazer, paving the way for other women to embrace their calling in gospel rap. Her artistry is rooted in her faith, with each performance, song, and project designed to uplift and inspire others.
In her candid and engaging interview with VBD Magazine, Miz Tiffany offered profound insights into her journey, faith, challenges, and successes. She spoke with passion about how her relationship with God has been the guiding force behind both her personal and professional achievements. Her authenticity and openness reinforced that her mission extends beyond entertainment—it’s about making a lasting impact on the lives of others.
A TRAILBLAZER IN CHRISTIAN HIP HOP
Miz Tiffany made history as the first female solo rap artist to be nominated for a Stellar Gospel Music Award for Rap/Hip Hop Gospel CD of the Year with her debut album, I Ain’t Preaching to the Choir. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, she shares, “I was honored, but it was also a signal that God was using me to break barriers in the gospel rap space.” Her groundbreaking nomination paved the way for other female artists in the genre.
Her most recent accolades include the 2023 Celebrity Artist of the Year Award at the MultiFace France International Celebrity Awards in Paris and the Best Hip Hop and Impact Honoree Music Award at the Antigua Barbuda Gospel Music Awards. Miz Tiffany is not only celebrated for her music but also for her community service and volunteer work, which earned her the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award under President Joe Biden's administration. “Giving back is not just something I do; it’s who I am. I know what it’s like to need help, and I want to be that help for others,” she says.
THE CALLING TO GOSPEL RAP
Surprisingly, gospel rap was not Miz Tiffany’s initial goal. She began her music career at a young age, writing poetry and songs before transitioning into secular rap. However, a life-changing car accident altered her perspective and direction. Miz Tiffany recounts, “I was in a coma for three days after the accident. Doctors told my mother I was brain dead, but God had other plans. When I recovered, I knew I couldn’t go back to what I was doing before. I had to use my talent for His glory.”
It was through this divine intervention that Miz Tiffany embraced her calling to gospel rap. After years away from music, she felt God calling her back—this time with a message. “I prayed and asked God, ‘What would you have me do?’ And the answer was clear: I was to spread the gospel through music. That’s when Miz Tiffany the Christian hip hop artist was born.”
A MULTIFACETED CAREER
Miz Tiffany’s career is not confined to music. She is also an accomplished actress, having appeared in well-known TV series such as Empire, Queen Sugar, and NCIS-New Orleans. “Acting was a natural extension of what I was already doing,” she explains. Her success in this field has landed her a lead role in the forthcoming faith-based film, Shield: By His Grace. Additionally, she has made a name for herself as a model, motivational speaker, and author of several children's books.
Despite her wide range of talents, Miz Tiffany emphasizes the importance of time management and staying grounded. “One gift stirred the other. I didn’t plan to become a model or actress, but doors opened, and I walked through them. It’s about making sure you’re walking through the right doors—the ones God has opened for you.”
Her ability to manage her various roles stems from a strong foundation in faith and family. As a mother of three, Miz Tiffany is diligent about ensuring her family is well cared for before stepping into her many roles. “I take care of home first. That’s my priority. When home is in order, everything else falls into place.”
INSPIRING AND MENTORING THE NEXT GENERATION
As a GRAMMY U mentor, Miz Tiffany is passionate about mentoring the next generation of artists. “Artists reach out to me all the time because they see what I’ve accomplished. I tell them, ‘Do the work, stay informed, and most importantly, stay true to who you are.’” She provides guidance, resources, and encouragement to young rappers and musicians, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and faith in their journey.
Miz Tiffany’s mentorship extends beyond music. Her community outreach efforts focus on early childhood literacy and youth empowerment. Through her involvement in schools and community events, she works to instill hope and confidence in young people, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds. “I know what it’s like to grow up without having everything you need, so I want to be a resource for others,” she says.
THE POWER OF PRESSURE
In August 2024, Miz Tiffany in collaboration with Jimmy Hunt released a new single titled Pressure, a song that explores the concept of resilience through faith. “There’s a purpose for pressure,” she explains. “God allows us to go through situations that test us, but it’s in those moments that we grow closer to Him. The song is about pushing through life’s challenges and coming out stronger on the other side.”
From overcoming personal hardships to achieving unprecedented success in the gospel rap industry, Miz Tiffany exemplifies the strength and grace that come from faith. “Every award, every accolade is a reminder of God’s promises. They’re not just achievements; they’re gifts from Him.”
